Quality product photographs go a long way towards making the sale.

We originally got into this line of work while developing web sites for clients. Many had poor quality images taken with home digital cameras. Even when the camera's quality was good, the composition and lighting of the images were generally poor. To this end we've added product photography to out portfolio, substantially discounted when you have Alphaware desing your web site as well. Call for a free consultation: 847-630-8559.

TYPE 1 : Stylized Brochure Images

Similar to the catalog image, but stylized. Soft, angled, reflected lighting techniques make the object appear more attractive that usual. It's important to note that some fine detail is lost this way. The loss of fine detail however can enhance an object by making it appear more "perfect" than it actually is. Generally in this type of photography the product is shot on a plain color background, (usually black or white) and the natural shadow is not removed. It's not uncommon to also shoot this type of product image on a reflective surface. This type of product photography is generally the least expensive.

TYPE 2 : Situational

An object is photographed in its natural environment, such as a power tool, on a work site or in the hand of a carpenter. It's used with or without a human model, but always in a way that shows it's natural environment. In this example a CNC machine is being programed by an operator. This image would usually be combined on a page with a type 1 or 3 image that would show the product itself in more detail. This type of photography has the widest range of costs involved. Costs depend on how much the photographer has to stage. For instance taking a shot at a job site, is no where near as expensive as staging a job site.

TYPE 3 : Catalog Images
Standard catalog photography requires that an image be taken in an image quality sufficient for web or print. Typically, the item is presented on it’s own with a white background. The image shows all detail found in the actual product. Product images can be ordered with no shadow, a set artificial shadow, or with minimal natural shadow. Direct or indirect lighting can be used to bring out detail or create a softer more dramatic image. Products to be photographed in this style need to have dimensions of 2' X 2 or less. For larger objects, type 1 or 2 photography is recommended.

Custom

Got your own idea in mind? Let Alphaware’s’ product photography team figure out how to get it done. There is no surcharge for custome work. All time and materials will be billed at standard rates. In the example here, the company wants to show en employee happily working on their new computer system. Because a monitor's image cannot be photographed clearly, a screen shot of the new software is super-imposed on the screen through image editing software durring post production.
